Hannah Belle Lecter

Everything is going well for local band Hannah Belle Lecter now that their energetic performance at last week’s downtown Art & Soul event has gained attention.

Hannah Belle Lecter, primarily a 1980s cover band, had eight songs prepared at this time last year and currently has about 25 songs ready to perform, some of which are from the 1960s and some are only a few years old.

The free Fourth in the Falls celebration, which runs from 4 to 10 p.m., will feature three live performances, including Hannah Belle Lecter. Thursday, July 4. By 9:30 p.m., the fireworks start to light up the July night sky.

At 4:30 p.m., Hannah Belle Lecter performs. Local favorites AA Bottom take the stage at 6 p.m., followed at 8 p.m. by headliner and road warrior Sean McConnell. On the city stage, which will be situated on the north side of Kay Yeager Coliseum, all live music performances will take place. On that day, the Ray Clymer Exhibit Hall will also be accessible.

Live entertainment, delicious food, tons of good times with friends, and, of course, spectacular fireworks will all be featured during the July 4 celebration.

Hannah Belle Lecter is a musically explosive individual. The talented quartet includes drummer Ricci Amador, bassist Dusty Potter, guitarists Donovan Hickman and Dustin Fike, and vocalist Hanna Smith.

Deliveries: Vary
After hearing Smith perform at the “Rock of Ages” production at Backdoor Theatre, Potter decided to start a band.

Amador, the group’s sole new member who also plays in Backdoor Theatre productions and joined Potter onstage in Blue Light Special, joined the group as drummer in March. Amador admitted, “I was pretty anxious entering the band because you have all these players I enjoy watching playing.”

Since Amador joined as the drummer, the ensemble has performed twice and added a number of new songs. The members select their cover songs mostly based on the vocals, which is a luxury few local bands can claim, as well as the fact that the four instrumentalists all sing background.

At the Iron Horse Pub on September 2, Hannah Belle Lecter will perform songs by Journey and other notable 1980s pop and rock bands.
According to Potter, “everything psychologically starts with the vocals and then moves from there. On practically every song we play, we try to be fairly true to the recorded version. We’ve made our own adjustments and arrangements, but if you were a fan of the original album, you may sing along.

Cyndi Lauper, Prince’s “1999,” The Police’s “Don’t Stand So Close to Me,” and Tears for Fears’ “Everyone Wants to Control the World” are a few of the 80s tunes that have just been included.

Three songs from the 1970s have been added by the group, including “Just What I Needed” by The Cars, “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac, and “Tom Sawyer” by Rush.

Amador cited Tears for Fears as his preferred band. “‘Everyone’ has this really odd off-time drumming bit that I really enjoy, and Donovan’s part is so clean,” the listener writes. He chuckled, “Tom Sawyer is my least favorite song, and the main reason for that is that I’m anxious to play Neil Peart, the drummer for Rush.

The trio anticipates playing between 22 and 24 songs during their 90-minute set. It might include “Chain of Fools” by Aretha Franklin, a few Cranberries songs, Tom Petty solo work, and The Killers.

The time the ensemble spent together undoubtedly improved a sound that most listeners already found to be pleasing. Since we have been performing as a group for more than a year, Potter claimed, “it’s a lot tighter and we can hear what the other ones are doing and play off it better.”

At the celebratory July 4 show, the group is probably going to debut some brand-new cover tunes.

Anticipate the heat, Smith advised, though it won’t need to be brought; it will already be there.

But we will, she assured him.
